PETER CANAVAN's Errigal Ciaran have got the all-clear to play Ballinderry today in the AIB Ulster club semifinal after Enniskillen Gael's objection to Errigal's win last Sunday failed at a meeting of the Ulster Council yesterday.
Enniskillen, who were beaten by the Tyrone champions 0-7 to 0-6 last week, were objecting to the fact that Errigal's Damien 'Daisy' McDermott was able to stay on the field for the duration of the match despite being shown a second yellow card by referee Gregory Walsh in the 34th minute of that quarter-final.
After hearing the referee's report in camera, however, the Ulster Council deemed the result should stand and that Errigal's semi-final clash in Ballinderry today should go ahead as scheduled.
In other news, Galway boss Peter Ford has said that he is quite optimistic yet that Padraic Joyce will play again for Galway but is not so optimistic about Michael Donnellan's prospects of returning to the county's cause.
Both players have been plagued by long-term injuries in recent years and have been left out of the county's panel, which resumed training this past week. Ford has spoken to both players and has said that while Joyce is confident that a few months off might help him recover from his Achilles tendon injury, Donnellan has indicated that he cannot see himself playing for Galway again.
Meanwhile in Kerry, Pat O'Shea of Dr Crokes remains the favourite to become Kerry manager. There had been speculation in recent days that Jack O'Connor had been approached to reverse his decision but O'Connor's meetings with county board chiefs had been merely social.
