More house plants die of overwatering than from any other single cause, including drought. All dormant or semi-dormant house plants should be kept on the dry side during winter, whereas bulbs in pots, or Christmas azaleas, which are now in vigorous and active growth, should be kept dampish, though not sopping wet or they could easily rot.
You should also keep house plants warm and draught-free in winter, but away from direct heat.
An exception can be made for the indoor florists' cyclamen you see on sale now, as they actually like things a bit on the cool side. In nature, Azaleas grow in acid conditions, so give them rainwater instead of alkaline tap water if at all possible, and always let them drink it from a saucer placed below. And never let them dry out completely.
