Seven of the 16 tracks on this compilation are original compositions by Jenkins, the other nine his arrangements of "nonEuropean" songs, with Argentinian composer, Guastavino featuring prominently. The result is a pop compilation of sorts and, like a lot of this genre, quite bland and lacking in variety. But within that, it is wellproduced, well-engineered and wellperformed. Te Kanawa slips in and out of different styles and timbres, in an effort to capture an "indigenous" flavour, a flexibility (or inconsistency) that can verge on the irksome.
