TRIED & TASTED INSTANT COFFEE
Jillian Bolger

Carte Noire 4.09/ 100g

The granules were nicely fragrant but once water was added they released an unpleasant burnt aroma.

Extremely mild tasting with a rough mouth feel, this was bitter and unsophisticated.

*Kenco 4.01/ 100g

This coffee had the most appealing aroma.

Though mild in flavour, it is followed by a sweet and nutty aftertaste.

Pleasant enough.

*** Maxwell House 2.99/ 100g

Freshly made, this smelt surprisingly like fresh percolated coffee.

Boasting a little more flavour than the others it was still disappointingly bitter and mild.

*Nescafe Black Gold 3.94 /100g

Lacking any distinctive aroma, this coffee seemed so weak and onedimensional that we made a second, stronger cup. This was just as bad . . . weak, bland and instantly forgettable.

No stars
