IRELAND now drinks more Corona beer per capita than any place on Earth outside of the Mexico and the United States, according to Michael Barry, managing director of the distributor of the beer here, Barry Fitzwilliam Maxxium.
Irish drinkers consumed 40m worth of Corona Extra in last year, Barry said.
"The Mexicans are entralled by the whole thing, here in the land of Guinness."
The growth has continued strongly over the last four years, supported by marketing promotions and even a Corona-sponsored Saturday night radio programme on stations including Dublin's 98FM and Galway Bay FM.
Barry said that the Corona represents 50% of the physical cases his Cork-based company now ships and 20% of turnover.
