Everything looks better by candlelight . . . food, your best china and you. The basics for a flattering festive feast setting are an armful of pillar candles, tea lights, a beaded table runner and some natural elements such as strands of ivy or seasonal flowers. A beaded runner instantly creates a festive look. Lay a long strand of ivy down the centre of the runner and place tiny tea lights in crystal holders at intervals. Wreaths are not just for doors . . . use one as a centrepiece and place a tall candle on a stand or candlestick in the middle. House of Fraser's Nutcracker dinner service (pictured left) brings a fashionable vintage look to festive table settings. To make plain china more festive, place a bauble on each plate. Silver place names and jewelled napkins are the finishing touches. And bring out your best crystal . . . you can never have too much sparkle.
