Nokia 8800 Sirocco . . .
It looks simply gorgeous. It's elegant. It sits in your hand with a weight that shouldn't be reassuring but is. It has stainless steel parts. The word 'sensual' is in the press release and we regret our initial guffaw. That said there are some disappointing design issues that accompany the market grandaddy's best effort to date at reclaiming its mojo. It has a very cool sliding faceplate that snaps open with a solid click, but when snapping shut it managed to leave our finger with a blood blister. The keys are also a bit small for fingers that aren't always as long, lithe and elegant as the phone. Finally, the navigation button to get to different functions is so snug that it's practically flush with a bit of plastic . . . making it hard to use the surprisingly good camera.
Massive kudos for style. A little short on substance.
Damage: around 1,000 at Brown Thomas
