SUBTITLED Tales from the Tower Block, this is part one of English saxophonist Soweto Kinch's two-part concept album about the residents of B19. Weaving jazz and hip-hop together with found material from television and the street, 'A Life in the Day' is a bold and brave attempt to move beyond the confines of either genre, and for the most part Kinch pulls it off.
Kinch knows who he is, and what he wants to say, and if your toes curl occasionally at the more contrived passages, there is also plenty of music to keep the foot tapping and the cynical soul revived.
