An exhibition, Sacred Legacy, opening at Dublin's Gallery of Photography last Thursday, shows how they really were. It draws from an extraordinary collection of over 40,000 photographs of Native Americans taken by Edward S Curtis over a 30-year period from 1900 to 1930. Curtis was known to native Americans as 'Shadowcatcher'.
