ERIN'S OWN (Cork) v TOOMEVARA (Tipperary)
Gaelic Grounds, 2.0
Referee G Hoey (Clare)
Different folks, different strokes.
For Erin's Own, getting here has constituted an achievement. For their opponents, getting here will constitute no achievement whatsoever unless they leave with the silverware. That's not to write off the Cork side's chances, simply to contextualise them.
Bouncing back from a poor start in the semi-final, led by Brian Corcoran they had the game in the bag by half-time, leading by a point with the wind to come. Even had they been trailing at that stage, one can't imagine Erin's Own would have been overly concerned; they'd chipped away at an eight-point interval deficit against Midleton to gain a draw a few months back on what, it can be said in retrospect, was the evening their season embraced new coordinates. No longer a soft touch in blue and red jerseys.
Eoghan Murphy's relentless accuracy from frees will punish any sloppiness on the part of the Toomevara defence, while they possess a half-back line that will not be easily broken. But Toome have the players, the experience and . . . one assumes . . . the determination.Ca suffit, as they say in north Tipperary.
