JIM FURYKwill take a threeshot lead into the final round of the Nedbank Challenge after another flawless display in Sun City. Furyk carded a third-round 68 for a 14-under-par total of 202 and has yet to drop a single shot in the 12-man event.
Padraig Harrington shot the lowest round of the week, 65, to move into second place on 11 under. He needed just 22 putts in his round, including an incredible stretch of 13 one-putts in a row.
"It is just random at the end of the day, " the Ryder Cup star told the tournament's official website.
"You stand there and hit good putt after good putt and they do not go in, and you stand there today and hit some good putts and they went in and I hit some bad putts and they went in.
"Golf is a very strange game. Everything was going in the hole, you just have to accept some days they do not go in and then, on a day like today, they are going in from everywhere. The whole idea is just to be there when the good days come along and you make it count."
Harrington will be paired with defending champion Furyk in the final round and admits he has a tough task to overhaul the American.
"I think we will find a lot of tough pins out there tomorrow and, to be honest, it will suit a man that is leading and with a solid game like he has, " he added.
"He can play to 15 to 20 feet on a lot of holes and put a lot of pressure on me to fire at pins that are going to be difficult to fire at."
Harrington made a brilliant start with five birdies in a row from the third, and after a bogey on the eighth another birdie on the ninth took him to the turn in 31.
The Dubliner picked up further shots on the 10th and 13th but Furyk was not about to make life easy for the chasing pack. The former US Open champion birdied the seventh and ninth to be out in 34 and birdied the 11th and 12th to ensure he remained on course for victory.
South Africa's Ernie Els and Sweden's Henrik Stenson share third place four shots behind Harrington.
