MARTIN Ferris is the recipient of the Brass Neck of the Week award. In a statement last Thursday, the Sinn Fein TD attacked Fine Gael over the finding of an Oireachtas Committee that British security forces had colluded in the 1970s with loyalist paramilitaries. He said Enda Kenny's response to the issue was "disingenuous" and that several former Fine Gael ministers from the 1973-77 period had "questions to answer over the inaction" at the time.
But getting to the truth of illegal British involvement in murder during the Northern conflict is no less or no more a necessity for national reconciliation than getting to the truth about illegal republican involvement in murder.
The Kerry North TD would be best served to pick his words and targets far more carefully. Like many of his colleagues who served prison sentences for IRA activities, Ferris also has plenty of outstanding questions to answer.
