EIRCOM is attempting to revitalise its British business after effectively shelving it five years ago. The company, recently bought by Babcock & Brown, has been using a business process outsource (BPO) firm to make thousands of sales enquiries. The BPO firm, SCi, contacted 5,000 potential clients in just 65 days and has generated almost 100 promising leads.
A spokesman for Eircom said the contract with SCi does not herald a major push back into Britain. He said that it is working with existing clients in Ireland with operations in Britain and was hoping to drum up business from SMEs there that are considering expansion into Ireland.
Services being offered in Britain focus on enterpriselevel solutions.
Eircom has maintained a small sales force in Britain since it downsized the operation there in 2001. It axed 80 jobs and focused on corporate customer services such as ATM solutions, leased-lines and fixed-line voice services. It also managed international traffic flows.
