POLAND SAID it will not offer Ryanair an option to acquire low-cost carrier Centralwings as part of its planned flotation of state-owned airline LOT next year. Last week Polish authorities signalled their intention to reduce the government stake in LOT as part of an IPO, but wants to retain a controlling stake. It also said it is examining plans to sell Centralwings, which includes Dublin among its destinations.
However, even though the Polish government said it will not sell to Ryanair, the Irish low-cost carrier has said it would have no interest in buying it. Centralwings is valued at close to 80m and expects to break even by 2008. LOT and Centralwings are reported to control a combined 70% of the Polish air travel market.
