Mozart: Clarinet Quintet "Kegelstatt" trio: Wolfgang Meyer/Patrick Cohen/Quator Mosaiques Naive (51m 30s) These works are not only landmarks in the short history of the clarinet but two of Mozart's finest chamber works, written to perfection by way of demonstrating the beauty of the new instrument.
All play here on period instruments, including Meyer on basset clarinet and Cohen on hammerflugel.
Refreshingly, this isn't deployed as a stand-alone stunt and the sound sits perfectly in between the classical and modern. Beautifully shaped and articulated, this is one of the best recordings of these works available.
