EASY LIKE SUNDAY MORNING Ceol, caint, bia agus craic in Gaillimh
Katy McGuinness

I TRY to make Sunday a complete veg-out of a day . . .

I'm very busy the rest of the week so I do my best to lie in until 10 or 11. It's a must. I'll pry myself out of the bed and throw a few Linda McCartney sausages under the grill.

I've been a veggie for five or six years now although I do eat fish . . . I think that makes me officially a piscatorian. Last Sunday the weather was so bad that I didn't leave the house all day, just lit a fire and read the papers and watched television and slobbed around . . . I loved it!

I live just on the outskirts of Galway city and quite often on a Sunday I'll round up a few friends and head into the Spanish Arch Hotel on Quay Street where there's a great jazz brunch.

We might do a bit of a postmortem on Saturday night and trade the gossip.

Then I usually go over to the mammy's house in Spiddal for a late lunch/early dinner. My sister is often there and my brother with his family so it's an opportunity to catch up with all their goings on. I'm the baby of the family.

My mother's a whizz in the kitchen although I do feel a bit left out when everyone else is tucking into the chicken and gravy and I'm looking at a pile of vegetables. I love juststeamed broccoli though, that's my favourite.

If there was an old 40s' movie or musical on in the afternoon that really makes my Sunday . . . I really enjoy relaxing on the sofa in front of a black and white movie.

On Sunday evening I might head into the trad session at Tihughes in Spiddal. It's the nicest session of all. I sing if I go, I can't help myself. Later I'll either go to Krcma, a Slavic pub in Salthill, or to Massimo in Galway for more jazz. I know a lot of musicians around the place from having grown up in Spiddal and many of them are friends.

I'm in my second year on Ros na Run now . . . playing sexy solicitor Tara O'Neill . . .and I film every week in Spiddal. We shoot for six months of the year, so we'll be wrapping in midFebruary although it stays on air until May.

Ever since I was in Charity You're A Star people keep asking me whether I'm going to start doing anything music-wise so I might use the break to do some recording. I really enjoyed the whole experience, and making over 75,000 for Cancer Care West was hugely rewarding.

In the meantime, I'm busy rehearsing for Mamo Ge (Mother Goose in Irish) which starts on Monday in An Taibhdhearc in Galway. I play the niece of the local developer/councillor who wants to buy Mother Goose's house and build on the site. I'm going out with Mother Goose's son so there's a conflict of interest. I did the panto last year too and had a blast, the kids in the audience are like another character.

When I get home on Sunday night I usually watch the Ros na Run omnibus to see how everything's turned out. I don't have a chance during the week. I'm looking forward to the return of ER tonight, I'm a big fan. Then I psych myself up for the week ahead.
