FA PREMIERSHIP LIVERPOOL 4 FULHAM 0
LIVERPOOL continued their impressive home form with a comprehensive win over Fulham yesterday. It had initially looked set to be a frustrating day for the home side, but once Steven Gerrard opened the scoring from a rebound after his penalty was saved, the floodgates opened.
In a dull first half, Liverpool's best opportunity came just before half-time when Kuyt, freed by a sequence of passes from Xabi Alonso and Gerrard, had space on the left and used it to cross deep. Luis Garcia's header looped over the bar and into the top of the netting.
This was Liverpool's seventh home win in the Premiership this season and while the title already looks out of site, their home form alone should be enough to guarantee a Champions League spot, good news for their prospective new owner, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
After Gerrard broke Fulham's resistance, Luis Garcia got the third but in between was a collector's item of a goal. The last time Jamie Carragher hit the net was way back in January 1999. Yesterday, he slid the ball in after 61 minutes to send his goal record soaring to four in 441 appearances.
It was Ian Pearce's handball that led to a penalty after 54 minutes and Fulham's undoing. Gerrard's penalty kick was saved by Jan Lastuvka but he made no mistake with the rebound.
Carragher and Luis Garcia quickly stretched the lead, both goals coming from crosses by Daniel Agger, and Mark Gonzalez completed the win with a 25-yard free kick in stoppage time.
