THE Central Council of the GAA issued a firm no yesterday to the international rules series for 2007 following a meeting in Croke Park.
Doubts had been expressed by a number of top ranking GAA officials in relation to the future of the series after a one-sided and physical second test at Croke Park in early November.
At yesterday's meeting delegates spoke both strongly in favour and against the continuation of the international rules series based on the incidents which occurred in the second test. Consultations were held with the Irish team management and players who expressed strong views that the series should continue. However Central Council dismissed the series for 2007 and instead proposed a document which would be prepared by the GAA, and would put on record "the basis of structure, rules, their implementation and penalties on which the future of any series must be considered".
The future of the junior international rules series is also in doubt with recommendations that it should not take place in 2007.
