SUNDAY is my favourite day of the week and I like not having a routine about what I do. When I'm working on Fair City, it's my only day off as we shoot from Tuesday to Friday and rehearse on Saturday and Monday. I try not to do too much on Sunday. I usually have a lie in and get up at around nine. I go around to the local shop for the papers and bring them back to the house for a good read. My boyfriend, Alan, and I bought a house together in Artane recently. I grew up around here and we're both north-siders so it seemed like the obvious place to buy.
I'm a bit of a home-bird and I like being near my folks.
We head into town for the 11.30 mass in Clarendon Street. It's my favourite church for lots of reasons. I love the fact that it's in the city centre and I think it's quite beautiful. There's also a fantastic choir and I find it a really uplifting start to the day. I've recently come back to being a mass-goer after a long break . . . not for any particular reason . . . I used to be made to go when I was a kid, just like everybody else, but now it's my choice.
After mass we head into the Chatham Brasserie for a fry up and a cup of tea and then we'll go for a wander around town. I'm the best window shopper so we'll usually take a stroll along Grafton Street. I like going up to Iveagh Gardens too . . .
it's a secret spot. My mum used to bring us there when we were kids and run the legs off us. My aunt was married to the garden keeper and they lived in the cottage in the gardens.
Quite often we'd go to a movie on Sunday afternoon.
I saw Casino Royale in the Savoy last week and thought it was great. I much prefer the Savoy to the new multiplexes. I went to Art Ireland in the RDS a couple of Sundays ago and we went to the Ideal Homes exhibition too.
Later on we'd often drop in to visit my mum and dad.
I'm blessed with my parents, they really are great people. My dad's a great cook too, so we might cadge our dinner off them.
I'm ok in the kitchen but I'd rather eat my dad's cooking any day. One of my sisters or my brother might be there so it's an opportunity to catch up.
In the summer we went out to Portmarnock beach for a walk or a bike ride a good few times but now the evenings are dark we're more likely to head home and I'll get stuck into learning my lines for the week ahead.
I got the call asking me did I want to do the New Year's Eve Celebrity Jigs and Reels one evening when I was sitting on the sofa with a bag of Maltesers in one hand and a Toblerone in the other. It was a big incentive to get fit. I've been rehearsing for a week or so now and I can't move my body. I'm sore all over. My partner is Scott Porter . . .
he's a world champion and was the lead in Riverdance.
I'd never done any Irish dancing before and I'm enjoying the whole experience. Mind you, I was out with Alan last night . . .
just dinner and a few cocktails . . . and I could feel the pina coladas oozing through every pore when I was rehearsing today.
'Celebrity Jigs and Reels' is on RTE One on New Year's Eve
