AFTER a five-month wait, disappointed GAA fans have received cash refunds instead of cereal bowls after demand for a Kellogg's GAA bowl promotion exceeded all expectations.
Kilkenny, Dublin, Cork and Kerry fans have become victims of their counties' popularity after supplies of cereal bowls in their county colours ran out, leaving many young fans disappointed.
In July, the Sunday Tribune reported that a promotion run by the company in conjunction with the GAA had exceeded all expected demands and led to consumers having to wait longer than anticipated for their bowls to arrive. Kellogg's has in recent weeks started to send out cash refunds to disappointed fans.
A company spokeswoman said, "Kellogg's Cornflakes GAA promotion exceeded all expectations in terms of redemption and while every effort was made to fulfil all requests for bowls, in certain counties, the demand was so great that unfortunately production couldn't meet delivery of bowls for all those that requested them."
Launched in April, the promotion offered GAA fans the chance to collect tokens and send off money to receive specially commissioned breakfast bowls in the 32 GAA county colours. "Kellogg's was particularly interested in the high demand in certain counties compared to others, " said the spokeswoman. "Kilkenny, Dublin and Cork had a very high interest while in Longford and Offaly, there was very little redemption."
