Garryowen claimed their first ODM Munster Senior Cup success since 1999 with a deserved 18-13 final victory over Cork Constitution at Thomond Park yesterday.
Tries in each half from Mark Melbourne and Kevin Hartigan helped the light blues claim the Cup for the 36th time in their history.
However, Paul Cunningham's men were made "ght all the way for their win by a spirited Cork Con.
Garryowen were good value for their 8-3 half-time lead. A Garryowen try from Mark Melbourne just before the break proved the decisive score of the half after Conor Kilroy and Con's Dan Nethery had traded penalty goals.
A second Nethery penalty soon after the restart helped Con reduce the deficit to just two points.
However, Hartigan's third quarter try, which was converted by Eoghan Hickey, saw Garryowen jump into a sizeable 15-6 lead. Cork Con' hit back with a Tom Gleeson try, which Nethery converted, to leave just two points between them once again.
However, Hickey 65th minute penalty goal sealed Garryowen's win.
