Elderly car park attendant attacked in Belfast
Louise Hogan

AN ELDERLY car park attendant was being treated in hospital yesterday after being attacked in broad daylight in Belfast city centre.

The 75-year-old man was assaulted by another man while working in his booth at the car park in Little Donegal Street in the north of the city at around 9.30am. He was taken to hospital with cuts to his head. A small amount of cash was stolen.

The attacker was described as being aged between 18 and 20 years old and about five feet eight inches in height. He was wearing a white hooded top. The Police Service of Northern Ireland said no weapon was used during the robbery and have appealed for witnesses.

Meanwhile, a security guard was threatened with a knife during the robbery of a cash delivery van in north Belfast.

The incident happened as the van stopped at a cash machine at the Mater Hospital.

The police say the robber escaped with a substantial amount of money. A green estate car was later found abandoned on Clifton Street.

The robber is described as being 5ft 8ins, of slim build and with a pale, freckly face.
