Amateur Sean Flanagan, who is hoping to turn professional later this week, notched up his third winner when guiding 25/1 outsider Sarah Tansy to a two and a half length success in the McCarthy Insurance Group Mares Handicap Hurdle at Cork yesterday.
Eamonn Sheehy, who trains the eight-year-old, said: "I didn't think she'd go in the ground to be honest because I thought she wanted better ground. We were only trying her in soft ground because she had a leg problem a year and a half ago. She'll go for another little handicap somewhere."
The Michael O'Brien-trained Signi"cant was described as "a horse for the future" by the trainer's assistant Denis Cullen, following his three length win under Andrew Lynch in the Coolagown Stud Maiden Hurdle. Cullen said: "When he "rst came to us he was a wiry little fellow but he's "lled out and I think over the next couple of months he's going to mature into a really nice horse."
Owner J.P. McManus was well represented in the McCarthy Insurance Group Hurdle with three runners and it was the 5/4 favourite Wins Now, trained by Niall Madden and ridden by his son and namesake, who came out on top by two lengths from Franklins Trail.
Madden, snr. commented: "He's not a bad horse, but the ground was a bit dead for him today."
