O'CALLAGHAN LEADS THE ROUT AS DUBLIN STOP STARS FROM SHINING

Dublin were easy winners over the Dublin Stars at Naomh Mearnog yesterday with David O'Callaghan registering 2-5 of a 3-17 to 0-12 win.

Dublin, who kick off their O'Byrne Cup campaign against DCU on Tuesday night fielded a experimental midfield with Declan O'Mahoney lining out along side Darren Magee in midfield.

Due to O'Byrne cup commitments, Dublin Stars were without their UCD contingent but they began brightly.

O'Callaghan (2) and O'Mahony had opened up an early three point lead before the Dublin Stars countered with successive points from Dermot Connolly to draw level on ten minutes. And a late surge saw them edge ahead 0-8 to 0-7 with Bernard Brogan sending a score just before half time.

Indeed the two teams were evenly matched up until the 44th minute when Mossy Quinn's offload saw O'Callaghan find the back of the next with a left footed shot. O'Callaghan was on the mark again three minutes later to stretch Dublin's lead to six.

Dublin added further points from Declan Lally (2), Paul Casey, Shane Ryan Jr and O'Callaghan before Stephen Cluxton made a terrific save to deny Alan Brogan at the other end.

Dublin: D O'Callaghan 2-5(1f), K Bonnar 1-3, D Lally, D O'Mahony 0-2 each, D O'Reilly, P Casey, C Moran, D Magee, Shane Ryan Jr 0-1 each.

Dublin Stars: D Connolly 0-5(3f), B Brogan 0-3, C O'Sullivan, P Gilroy, A Brogan, C Goggins 0-1 each.
