Want to give your sad new-year visage a lift, without resorting to surgery? Here's how to glow again
SO THE whole new year resolution thing didn't quite work out.
The promises you made to get up at the crack of dawn and walk to work, the vows to chuck out the near-empty box of Roses and only eat oats and raw carrots and, of course, the solemn pledges to quit smoking have all evaporated into a cloud of (nicotine-filled) smoke. Just like last year.
So what about making a slightly easier resolution? How about, getting the perfect face in 2007? And no, I'm not trying to send you to your local friendly plastic surgeon.
Instead, why not take a look at what's new on the market and treat your poor old face for once. Trust me? it'll be fun.
Anti-age with a difference Okay, so the very word 'anti-age' sends everyone to snoresville, but have you met Chanel's new Micro Solutions? Only released on 8 January, this product could possibly change your life (only a slight exaggeration). The Micro-Dermabrasion Targeted programme (Euro220) promises to help you regain the skin texture of your youth in just three weeks and is a viable option to cosmetic surgery. Packaged in a shiny white case, the programme consists of two cream treatments that between them can be applied to all areas of the face with a massage wand. These warming creams clear pores of all impurities and leave skin plumped out and satiny smooth. They are then followed with a soothing lotion. Best of all - it need only be applied twice a week for three weeks. Hurrah.
Get Blissful skin If you haven't already heard of Bliss (that's New York's hottest spa to you and me) then it's time to get in the know. This gorgeous range only arrived in Ireland at the end of last year but is predicted to be one of the hottest brands of 2007. The All-Around skincare range for every skin type is one of the best. Keep an eye out for the Clog Dissolving Cleansing Milk (Euro30). This fresh and fruity cleanser clears out pores and leaves skin glowing, as does the Fabulous Foaming Facial Wash (Euro25). If you're looking for a good face mask (which should ideally be applied once a week), look no further than the Triple Oxygen Instant Energising Mask (Euro60). This foaming mask is a replica of Bliss's salon treatment that detoxes and revitalizes sad, sallow skin and gives you a foam beard to rival Gandalf. Available from BT2, Dundrum Shopping Centre, Dublin.
Exfoliate Keep hearing the word 'micro-dermabrasion' and getting slightly irritated? Well, keep cool because you'll be hearing this word a lot more in the coming year. Basically, it's a new type of exfoliation that means instead of scrubbing your face with salt lumps the size of grapes, you now have subtle mineral and marine algae products that get your circulation going, reveal a new layer of skin and help protect against sun damage. Exfoliation should be done once every week, so you might as well keep upto-date on how you do it. One particularly good type is H 2O Plus Renewing Micrexfoliant (Euro27), available from Clery's and selected chemists nationwide.
Fake i t When all else fails, put a bit of effort into making your skin look good the good old artificial way. Estee Lauder has just released its Resilience Lift Extreme Ultra Firming Make-Up (Euro39) that camouflages wrinkles and uneven skin tone while adding radiance to your face. Crucially, it has an SPF of 15 to protect your skin from the elements. If you're looking dull and tired, Clarins Beauty Flash Balm (Euro32) will always pep up your face, while a little gold highlighter, such as Nars Highlighting Blush Powder (Euro29) around the temples and upper cheekbones will make you a new woman.
