WHAT'S IN STORE FOR THE NEXT SEVEN DAYS

»WHAT'S THE STORY?

Golden Globes kick off award season in the US It's that Golden Globes time of year again, when we can figure out what films might actually be worth spending money on in the cinema this year. Presenters at tomorrow's ceremony will include Justin Timberlake, Charlie Sheen, Sharon Stone, Drew Barrymore, George Clooney and Steve Carrell of The Office fame.

Meanwhile, Tom Hanks will present Warren Beatty (right) with this year's Cecil B DeMille Award for his 'outstanding contribution to the entertainment field.'

» WHAT ARE THEY SAYING?

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced its nominations last month with Babel, Bobby, The Departed and The Queen all up for Best Picture. Penelope Cruz, Kate Winslet and Judi Dench are battling it out for Best Actress, while Leonardo Di Caprio has been nominated twice for Best Actor for his performances in Blood Diamond and The Departed. The remaining nominees, Will Smith, Peter O'Toole and Forest Whitaker shouldn't bother getting their hopes up.

» WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

The awards kick off at 8pm tomorrow, California time, but Irish viewers will have to plug their ears until they are screened in Ireland on Tuesday night. Any winners of a Golden Globe will be hotly tipped for an Oscar so watch this space. Far more interesting, of course, is what frocks the ladies are going to wear. Anyone remember Reese Witherspoon's (left) Chanel creation from last year? Thought not.

»WHAT'S THE STORY?

Legendary producer Phil Spector goes on trial for murder The trial of legendary music producer Phil Spector (right) for the murder of actress Lana Clarkson begins on Tuesday. Clarkson was found shot dead in Spector's Californian mansion (far right) nearly four years ago.

She was a B-movie actress whose credits include 'Barbarian Queen' and 'Knight Rider'. A month before her death, Spector told a newspaper that he thought of himself as "relatively insane."

» WHAT ARE THEY SAYING?

"I didn't mean to shoot her" - what Spector allegedly said in a police statement.

"I began to lose control / I didn't mean to hurt you / I'm sorry that I made you cry / I didn't want to hurt you / I'm just a jealous guy" - John Lennon's 'Jealous Guy', produced by Spector.

»WHAT'S THE STORY?

Apart from this upcoming trial, Spector is also currently involved in a civil suit against his former defence attorney, Robert Shapiro, who refused to return his $1m retainer fee upon his replacement.

Clarkson's mother has also "led a civil action against Spector relating to her daughter's wrongful death.
