GER LOUGHNANE'S first competitive match in charge of Galway will have to wait for another day as their Connacht League clash with Roscommon fell by the wayside yesterday.
The venue for the game involving the Galway Development side and Roscommon was changed a few times during the week. Both teams turned up for the 2pm clash at Fuerty in Roscommon but torrential rain took its toll on the surface, making it unplayable, and a decision was taken shortly before the start to call off the game.
"It was disappointing not to be able to go ahead with the match given the efforts both squads had made, but there was no point in trying to play in those sort of conditions, " said Loughnane.
The pitch at Fuerty has an excellent surface but few venues could have survived the massive rainfall throughout yesterday morning.
The primary Galway squad had trained at Ballinderreen earlier yesterday morning before the team management headed to Roscommon for the Connacht League game.
Efforts will now be made to have the game re-fixed for the knockout competition.
