FUTURE OF SENIOR SOCCER IN LIMERICK IN SERIOUS DOUBT DESPITE FRANTIC EFFORTS

Efforts are continuing this weekend in a bid to keep senior soccer alive in Limerick.

Late last year Limerick was the only club in the League who failed to be granted a licence despite finishing midtable in Division One, their best finish for a number of seasons. The FAI will tomorrow receive an application from Soccer Limerick, a group anxious to maintain Limerick's involvement in League football which has been unbroken since 1937. If successful in securing a First Division licence the new club will be known as Limerick 37 and will play their home games at Jackman Park, a venue previously used by the League Of Ireland club.
