SMURFIT KAPPA's Austrian subsidiary generated sales of Euro189m in 2006, a 16% rise on its 2005 performance. Earnings are also understood to have increased. Energy and raw materials costs rose at the business, but were largely offset by being transferred into client prices. The Austrian subsidiary said it is investing more than Euro1m to introduce energy saving measures at its plant. Smurfit Kappa Nettingsdorfer employs 360 people and an additional 650 contractors. Smurfit Kappa may return to the market this year in a move that could value the packaging firm at up to Euro6bn.
