JADE Goody will today embark on a serious damage limitation exercise, following her eviction from Celebrity Big Brother on Friday night amid claims that she is a racist and a bully.
Goody, (25), who sparked international controversy over her treatment of fellow contestant Shilpa Shetty, sold her story to a British Sunday newspaper before she entered the house, and is expected to apologise in full for her behaviour.
It is likely that she will make several public appearances this week in an attempt to salvage her career as a reality TV personality, which began on Big Brother in 2002 and which has since amassed her a fortune of £8m (Euro12.2).
"She was born on Big Brother and maybe she will die on Big Brother, " said PR guru, Max Clifford, who believes that Goody is not a racist.
"I don't honestly think it was racism, " he told RT? radio yesterday.
"I think it was born out of ignorance and the class issue rather than racism. If Shilpa was an English upper-class actress? I believe the same things would have been said."
Goody's treatment of Bollywood star Shetty, which included telling her to "go back to the slums" and referring to her as "Shilpa Poppadom", sparked international outrage, effigy-burning in India and a House of Commons debate.
Along with Goody, glamour model Danielle Lloyd, former SClub7 star Jo O'Meara, and Goody's fiance, Jack Tweed, have all been accused of repeated racism and bullying.
Upon being shown video footage of herself following her eviction on Friday night, Goody denied being a racist, but said she could see how her comments could have been construed as such.
"In all honesty, I am disgusted with myself, witnessing what I have seen, " she said. "I do not approve of any of my actions and I do not approve of the words that came out of my mouth."
Goody also apologised to everyone she had offended.
Earlier in the week, Goody was told by Big Brother that she had caused offence and she apologised to Shetty, who later said she did not believe Jade was racist. However, Shetty has not heard many of the comments made about her, including Danielle Lloyd saying "she wants to be white".
The controversy has been a massive boost for Big Brother's rat - ings, which were flagging badly before this incident. Although 40,000 complaints have been made and Carphone Warehouse withdrew its sponsorship, 5.7 million people tuned in to watch Goody's eviction on Friday night.
"Big Brother knew exactly what they were doing when they put Jade in there with her mother and her boyfriend, " said Clifford. "This whole thing has been manipulated."
London's mayor, Ken Livingstone, along with other leading politicians and social commentators, said yesterday that he was delighted at the eviction.
"You can imagine the uproar there would have been in this country if, say, Keira Knightley had been abused in a
