Do you agree with the Archbishop's belief that there is a "growing coarseness and aggression" in Irish society?
ALMOST 80% of Irish people agree with recent comments by Catholic Archbishop Seán Brady that there is a "growing coarseness and aggression" in Irish society.
The prelate recently voiced concern over the changing nature of Irish society and called for a return to Christian values. He spoke of a "very deep concern, particularly by parents, about where we are going morally and spiritually, " and noted that certain aspects of Irish society were changing for the worse.
When asked whether they agreed with the comments, 79% of respondents expressed agreement, with just 12% disagreeing. A further 9% expressed no opinion.
The comments were initially made by Archbishop Brady in an interview with the Irish Times, where he cited issues such as excessive drinking and the early sexualisation of children as "dehumanising" consequences of modern society.
He called on people to return to traditional Christian values, and cited RT?'s Podge and Rodge as having a particularly negative impact on modern society. Ireland was becoming "a society of Podge and Rodge, " rather than a society that held Christian values, he said.
