How long do you spend each day on the journey to AND from your home and work?
MORE than a quarter of commuters living in Dublin are spending over an hour a day travelling between their home and place of work - more than twice the corresponding figures for elsewhere in the country.
The Sunday Tribune/Millward Brown poll shows that 28% of people living in Dublin spend more than one hour every day commuting, compared to 13% of commuters in Munster, 13% in Connaught/ Ulster, and 17% elsewhere in Leinster.
Amid growing public frustration over the level of traffic congestion on the M50 and throughout Dublin city centre, the poll reveals the commuter lifestyle facing many of Dublin's residents. While 28% of commuters in Dublin travel for over an hour a day, nationally the figure is 19%. Of that figure, 9% of commuters nationally spend longer than 90 minutes a day travelling to and from work. On a national level, 46% of commuters spend less than half an hour travelling to and from work daily, with a further 31% spending between 30 minutes and one hour.
The poll also shows that over half (57%) of all commuters depend on motorised transport to get to work every day. This figure is highest among young males and those in the professional classes. Sixty-six per cent of men and 48% of women use motorised transport every day.
