Byrne off the mark at Cardiff
Mark Rodden

JASON BYRNE made a dream start to his Cardiff City career yesterday as he came off the bench to fire the winner in a 2-1 win over Wolves. Byrne scored two minutes from time to hand Cardiff their first win in 13 games. Stephen Ward, who joined Wolves from Bohemians last week, also made his debut when he came on as an 80th minute substitute.

Elsewhere, Roy Keane's Sunderland moved up to seventh in the table following a 42 away win at Sheffield Wednesday with David Connolly on target. Liam Lawrence, Alan Lee, Shane Long and Aiden McGeady were also on target across channel.
