CLARE goalkeeping legend Davy Fitzgerald is on the verge of withdrawing from the county panel after a disagreement with management. Fitzgerald, who did not meet up with the panel for their match against the Garda College yesterday, is not expected at today's Waterford Crystal semi-final against Tipperary either after being frustrated at the lack of flexibility and specialised training he's been afforded since Tony Considine assumed the managerial post.
And Fitzgerald, currently preparing the Limerick Institute of Techology team for the Fitzgibbon Cup, is now seriously considering finishing an inter-county career that boasts two All Ireland senior medals, three All Stars and three Munster medals.
The 35-year-old, who has made 60 senior championship appearances, was keen to attempt surpassing Christy Ring's record of 65 'caps'. But management have been trying out Philip Brennan and Seán Hawkes in recent weeks prompting further speculation about his future.
