With longtime playing partner saxophonist Frank Wess, Jones - nearly 90 - quietly and without fuss shows exactly how classic bebop is played. This is a master class in understatement, with both leaders in excellent form and a hard-swinging rhythm section led by veteran drummer Mickey Roker. No prizes for innovation, but this is a solid gold example of what talent coupled with seven decades of experience sounds like.
