1. Be my sweetheart We don't need to mention again that dresses are big news for the new season - and we are taking any kind of dress, from wrap-around to trapeze cut - but we do need a moment to start shouting about the new tube shape that is coming in now. Definitely one of fashions sexier, more daring cuts, if have any kind of hang-ups - from jumbo thighs to bingo-wings - this is not the look for you. But if you are body confident, what better way to flaunt it than in tight hot pink satin? Go sizzle! Dress, Euro255, Pinko, BT2
2. A lot of neck With jewellery trends moving towards slinky golds and silver chainmail, the ethnic look of the last few seasons is now looking a bit dated, with one exception: designer Joanne Hynes signature fat, colourful beads are always on the money and are the perfect antidote to this season's neutrals and whites. Necklace, from a selection starting at Euro65, Ruby Rouge, 39 Priory Court, St Michaels Road, Gorey, Co Wexford; Aria, Unit 7, Poplar Square, Main St, Co Kildare.
Also available to order from Joanne Hynes - info@joannehynes. com
3. Super-size me Despite the fact that fashion is going both over-size (in the shape of capacious smocks and luggage-size handbags) and under-size (mini 'skorts' and fist-sized handbags), the one area that remains constant is eye-wear - which stays as bug-eyed as ever. This year's shades are flashier and fancier than ever, with Dior and Gucci leading the way. Gold 'I love Dior' shades, Euro280; Gucci horn frames, Euro215; Gucci gold detail shades, Euro260, all at House of Fraser, Dundrum
4. United Colours The return of coloured denim to the high street this season will have a lot of people running for the hills (what year is it again, 1989? ), but these yellow kiddies ones at H&M are playful rather than offensive. A gleeful alternative to some of the more sombre kid's colours in store now. (Grey is sludgey enough for adults but is really not a good look for under 12s. ) Jeans, Euro19.90, H&M Kids
5. Fun size You know the way the shorts thing has been around for a few seasons but still feels like it hasn't taken off? All of you early adapters who embraced the trend first time round can now feel very smug indeed, back as they are again with gusto for this season, and in more shapes, sizes, colours and cuts than ever before. These checked tweedy ones are eminently wearable over thick tights and with boots.
Micro shorts, Euro42, River Island.
