1. Best for: Modern romantics Where? The G Hotel, Galway Design-directed by milliner Philip Treacy, this flashy boutique hotel in Wellpark, Co Galway, is the only Irish hotel on Condé Nast Traveller's Hot List for 2006. From the tank of Connemara-bred seahorses to the glamorous Ladies Salon, resplendent in pink, Treacy's unique stamp is everywhere.
The Gentlemen's Lounge gets even more movie-set like with its deep blue walls, golden doorways and purple velvet furniture.
Worth getting out of bed for: When you wake up on a cloud of dreamy Frette sheets you might just want to roll over and put out the 'Do Not Disturb' sign, but breakfast in this psychedelic haven is well worth getting up for. From eggs benedict to honeyed porridge, it is all included in the room rate.
If it's a rainy west-of-Ireland day and you are still feeling lazy, treat yourself to a massage-for-two at the ESPA spa, or flake out in the rock sauna, zen garden and vitality pool.
Can't buy me love? Mid-week rates start at Euro240, with weekend prices ranging from Euro450 for a basic room to Euro2,500 for the signature 'Evangelista' suite. For Valentine's, if requested, your room can come adorned with flowers, cake and champagne and there is a special three-course Valentine's menu, offering dishes such as oysters and crab.

The Merrion Hotel, Dublin Recently voted one of the world's 50 most romantic places to stay in the world by Travel and Leisuremagazine, the Merrion Hotel is one of Dublin's most elegant and discreet city centre venues. Not every room looks the same, but the junior suites are worth requesting, as they come French country-house style, with vintage-look bed linen, ornate mirrors and old-style fireplaces.
Worth getting out of bed for: Art and architecture lovers will appreciate the proximity to the National Gallery and the RHA, as well as the fact that the hotel hosts one of the country's largest private art collections, with pieces by Irish artists such as Jack Yeats and Paul Henry.
Can't buy me love? The hotel has a choice of two Valentine's specials: 'The St Valentine's Romantic Getaway' is priced Euro580 per couple and is available 10-14 February. It includes two nights' b&b as well as champagne, chocolates and a gift of rose-scented candle and bath oils. 'The St Valentine's Day Romantic Interlude' is from Euro455 per couple and includes one night's stay as well as breakfast, champagne, chocolates and dinner in The Cellar restaurant.

The Malmaison Hotel, Belfast Located in a magnificent landmark building in the heart of buzzy Belfast, the Malmaison oozes style, class and rock-star cool. With its slinky, gothic, moody feel, the hotel is modern and luxurious, but also has a homely, relaxed atmosphere.
Think Russell Brand meets Daniel O'Donnell; it's a venue that is perfect for a mid-February winter chill, where you can equally curl up at the bar and get serious with some heady red wine or head out for a night out on the town.
Worth getting out of bed for: For a blow-the-whole-budget experience book the outrageously outré Samson suite which comes with a gargantuan 9ft bed and its own pool table and lounge area. If you do get around to leaving the hotel, your pick of shops, trendy clubs and restaurants are at your doorstep.
Can't buy me love? Prices start at an obtainable £99 (Euro150) per night. For Valentine's Day there is a special package of £175 (Euro264) which includes b&b, champagne and chocolates.

The Monart Hotel and Spa, Co Wexford Fluffy robed groups of women pad seamlessly around the futuristic hallways, while the stylish all-white restaurant area is filled with buff, well-dressed couples and sophisticated groups of friends. Relax and get socialising or slip off on your own together to one of the TV-less lounge rooms.
Worth getting out of bed for: Wake up to a lake-side view with a healthy breakfast on the balcony, followed by a visit to the spa, the heart and soul of the venue. There are nine different 'experiences' including a sanariam, Finnish sauna, outdoor log sauna and an ice-bucket shower. The best bit is the chill-out area, with its sci-fi like reading pods.
Can't buy me love? The hotel has a mid-week Valentine's Day package from Euro295 per person sharing, which includes a two-night stay with breakfast and one dinner included.

Carton House, Maynooth, Co Kildare One of Ireland's foremost stately homes (Lord Edward Fitzgerald was born here), the 18th century Carton House has recently re-emerged as a five-star hotel and championship golf course.
The location has a starry past, with previous houseguests including Grace Kelly and Queen Victoria. Marianne Faithful famously lived in Shell Cottage, the boat-house on the grounds.
Worth getting out of bed for: With a new Molton Brown spa just open in the stables of the hotel, you can luxuriate while he plays golf - or the other way around.
Can't buy me love? The St Valentine's Romance Package (11-14 February) includes overnight accommodation in a superior bedroom, a candlelit dinner in the Linden Tree Restaurant and a champagne breakfast, priced at Euro130 pp sharing.
For a real blow-out, impress her with the 'Lady Emily package' which costs Euro2,500 based on two persons sharing and includes treatments at the newly opened spa as well as accommodation in the Lady Emily suite for two nights.

Luckily for us it's not as formidably trendy as all that though. Here you really can sit back and relax - there is a lovely mix of people, both clientele and international staff - and set as it is in 1,300 acres of parkland the whole vibe is seriously chilled out and spoil-yourself.
Worth getting out of bed for: With every bedroom and suite done differently, the chain-hotel feel has been banished completely at the boutiquey Farnham. All suites come with sunken baths, couples showers and giant modern-stately four-poster beds and fireplaces.
Think low-key glamour in a warm, convivial atmosphere.
Click on an in-house movie, order room service, run a bath and hole up in your room for the duration of the stay or else get out for a big country walk, hire a barge cruiser or go horse-riding. In the evening join in the house party feel at the in-house Wine Goose cellar wine bar.
Can't buy me love? The midweek rate is Euro431 per person sharing for a two-night stay, including a 25-minute refresher facial and a 55-minute ritual. They promise champagne on arrival on Valentine's day.

Rathsallagh House, Co Wicklow This family-owned 1798 country house, on the edge of the Wicklow Mountains, is surrounded by 350 acres of rolling parkland. Just one hour outside of Dublin, the relaxed location has plenty of character to add to its cosy country ambience.
Worth getting out of bed for: Prior to arrangement activities can include archery, tennis, horse-riding and spa facilities, but one of the main reasons people return again and again to Rathsallagh is to do with the hospitality of the O'Flynn family owners as well as delicious, home-grown, fresh produce on offer incorporated into the daily dinner menu.
Can't buy me love? Valentine's specials start from Euro155 per person and include two nights' b&b as well as the choice of a half-hour body massage or a round of golf and a glass of champagne before dinner.

Muckross Park Hotel, Killarney, Co Kerry Set just outside the gates to Killarney National Park, the Muckross Park Hotel has an old-style hospitality that will put you immediately at ease. With its hodge-podge-like interiors - think Waterford chandeliers, sunken antique sofas and nude modern portraits combined - the hotel has a beautifully unique, relaxed feel to it.
Worth getting out of bed for: Sight-seeing at Muckross Abbey and Muckross House, boating on the lakes of Killarney, pints in the famous trad-Irish next-door pub 'Molly Darcys'. Or stay lazy and head for a Lomi Lomi ritual massage for two at the Cloisters spa, followed by a sunset jacuzzi under the stars.
Can't buy me love? Valentine's Day deal includes one night's b&b in a deluxe room, with champagne and chocolates on arrival priced at Euro145 per couple. You can avail of all the above with dinner for the price of Euro209 for the second night.
Get a room: 064 23400; www. muckrosspark. com 9. Best for: Luxe lovers Where? Dylan Hotel, Dublin The newly opened Dylan hotel, with its leafy location and super-style design, is fast becoming one of the ponciest places in the city to sup and be seen.
Worth getting out of bed for: If you can stand the fact that you might be sharing a bar with some of the city's most flagrant wannabes, this trendy hotel boasts the best cocktail list in town, and has also received rave reviews of its hotel restaurant, called The Still.
Can't buy me love? There are a number of Valentine's Day packages on offer including 'Love Me Tender', which includes one night with all the trimmings (rose petals on the bed, champagne, etc) and is priced at Euro390 and the 'Still Experience' which consists of b&b and an eight-course meal, priced at Euro425.

The Marriot Druids Glen Hotel and Country Club, Co Wicklow Set between the sea and the mountains and right beside the 400-acre Druids Glen champion golf club, the Druids Glen hotel is the perfect spot for nature and golf lovers alike.
Worth getting out of bed for: Whether you use the opportunity to tee-up on your golf with an on-site lesson with a pro, or get out for bracing walks in the Wicklow hills, this is a good spot for couple time.
If you are feeling brave there are his and hers treatments at the onsite spa. The pool and sauna facilities are impressive too.
Can't buy me love? Avail of the all-in special February spa break which costs Euro265 - Euro390 for two and includes one night's b&b, a three course dinner in Druids restaurant and an Elemis spa ritual.
