12 THE age at which the world's youngest sex change patient started hormone treatment. The German youngster, christened Tim and now called Kim, began treatment at the age of 12 and is hoping to have an operation to remove his male genitalia when he is 16.

Kim is now 14 and has called for a change to legislation which requires a patient to be 18 before being able to undergo a sex change. The child began referring to himself as a girl at the age of five.
