TRAINER Willie Mullins was responsible for both the winner of the Corporate Hospitality At Fairyhouse Hurdle at Fairyhouse and also the runner-up, but they didn't finish in the order that most punters had anticipated, with the trainer's French import J'y Vole, a 12/1 chance, upsetting the 9/4 favourite Deutschland by the margin of four lengths in the hands of David Casey.
Deutschland's jockey Davy Condon reported that his mount's cause wasn't helped by the deep and tacky ground.
Mullins indicated that both J'y Vole and Deutschland remain on course for the Triumph Hurdle, for which the winner's odds were halved from 50/1 to 25/1.
Point-to-point winner Bien Bronze opened his account over timber with a short head success for the trainer and jockey team of Arthur Moore and Davy Russell in the Fairyhouse Racecard Advertising Maiden Hurdle.
The 5/4 favourite races in the familiar colours of Sean Mulryan and Moore said, "Davy said he hit a bad patch of ground there and lost his action a bit. I'll give him a couple of runs in handicaps later in the season before we go chasing with him next year."
Laureldean gave his trainer Michael Cunningham a few anxious moments when he was being saddled for the Easter Tickets On-Line Handicap Chase, but made the effort worthwhile when containing the renewed effort of Grangehill Dancer by three lengths under Andrew Duff.
Cunningham quipped "Tony Martin saddled the horse for me at Leopardstown one day and said you'd want insurance money for that! He likes this ground and has a lot of class but isn't one for the faint-hearted."
The trainer went on to say that he will decide later this week whether Patsy Hall takes his chance in the Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup or the Dr P.J. Moriarty Novice Chase at Leopardstown next Saturday.
Out In Front, from the Oliver McKiernan stable, followed up his recent Thurles victory with further success in the Easter Three-Day Festival Novice Handicap Hurdle, scoring by two and a half lengths with Niall Madden in the saddle.
