RAMSBOTTOM SEALS COLLEGES WIN FOR KNOCKBEG OVER MOATE

A wonderfully struck 50th-minute goal from Knockbeg College mid"elder and captain Sean Ramsbottom killed off the challenge of Moate Community School at Dr Cullen Park, Carlow yesterday in this Leinster Colleges SFC A quarter-"nal.

Knockbeg, winners of the All-Ireland 'A' title in 2005, were clearly the better side throughout this game and secured a 2-10 to 1-7 win.

The midland side had struggled in the opening half but an 18th-minute goal from their centre-forward James Durkan put them 1-2 to 0-3 in front. Knockbeg hit back with three points and by half time they were 0-8 to 1-3 in front. The Moate forward line saw little decent ball in the second half as Knockbeg's domination continued through mid"elders Ramsbottom and Donie Kingston.

Substitute Ciaran Delaney scored Knockbeg's "rst goal after 38 minutes but Moate fought back only to have their hopes killed off by Ramsbottom's strike.
