ALMOST 7,000 sit-down dinners will be served up to Croke Park's corporate clientele today as they spend an estimated Euro6.5m to watch today's rugby international.
It is thought that today's historic game between Ireland and France is worth anything from Euro25m to Euro30m to the Dublin economy.
Croke Park corporate boxes are leased on a 10-year basis but those companies that did not wish to avail of the rugby fixtures could have sold it back to the stadium at a market-rate.
The occasion is set to have massive knock-on commercial gains for the stadium.
"Overall it will be a huge benefit for us and the city. It is a chance for us to showcase our facilities to a new audience and let them see this cracking facility that was built by an amateur organisation.
"We are looking to give a massively positive 'céad míle fáilte', " said Croke Park stadium director Peter McKenna.
Lucrative TV deals and a whole new suite of advertising from French businesses mean it will be a boom-day for Croke Park directors, the GAA and the IRFU.
"We expect our banqueting business to benefit hugely from today's game, " said McKenna. "The only international exposure we have really had so far was the international rules and the Special Olympics. Having Croke Park mentioned across the British and the French media will be a huge bonus, " he said.
Whatever about the rugby team, Croke Park bar staff will be hoping for a dry day to keep the pints flowing and tills busy. "The take at the bars very much depend on the weather. They will be open for an hour after the game but when it's very wet people just want to either get home or to drink at another indoor location. If it's crisp and dry, that business should do well, " McKenna said.
