Dave Douglas Meaning and Mystery Greenleaf . . . . .
Trumpeter Dave Douglas, saxophonist Donny McCaslin, keyboardist Uri Caine, bassist James Genus and drummer Clarence Penn represent an extraordinary concentration of talent and they make one of the finest noises since Miles Davis's great '60s quintet. The liner notes, as always from the erudite Douglas, are equally illuminating, none more so than his observation that "looking to liner notes for an explanation of music is like watching Breakfast at Tiffany's to find a good omelette recipe." The same might be said of CD reviews, but take my word for this much - buy it today.
