A RIVAL to Volvo's C30 is on the way from another Swedish company. Saab is working on a new sporty hatchback, the 9-1. The Audi A3 and BMW 1-Series will also be targets for the newcomer when it comes next year.
Biodiesel and biopower petrol units are expected to feature in the engine line-up. Chassis and suspensions will be shared with the next generation Opel Astra.
And VW is putting the finishing touches to a new Golf Estate which is expected to be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show. Angular headlights and a Passat style grille are the main features. Inside, engineers have created a flat luggage area for when the rear seats are dropped, while a divide to stop loads moving towards the cabin area is expected to be installed as a safety feature.
Current petrol and diesel engines will be used. A new Golf hatchback is also on the way and should be here late next year. Insiders say the design will be an evolution of the current model.
