GET IT THIS WEEK. . .
Lots of trends in one without being scarily 'fashiony' - the blazer that's also the perfect accompaniment to this season's short dresses;
the '80s-influenced tee and the futuristic Perspex necklace. River Island gets it absolutely right.

The 2007 Bombay Sapphire Designer Glass Competition sees ten young designers hoping to follow in the footsteps of John Rocha, Louise Kennedy and Paul Costello with their take on the martini glass. Diarmuid Gavin is one of the judges selecting the overall winner who will represent Ireland in the international finals in Milan in May, where the prize is a cheque for $15,000. You can see the entries on display in the Ely Wine Bar, CHQ in the IFSC until 16 February.
FACE FACTS TFor one week only, starting from today, the exclusive Hungarian facial, Omorovicza, is coming to Harvey Nichols in Dublin.
Based on the benefits of the healing waters of Hungary, this luxurious brand sources only the purest natural ingredients from around the world in the belief that they provide the best long-term results and the healthiest skin.
Unlike other facials, the Omorovicsa experience is personalised to suit the customer's skin type - extraction is a key part of the facial and neck and hands are also massaged, while customers relax on a hydrotherm pillow. Nice.
Available in Harvey Nichols from 11-18 February, Euro80 for a 90minute treatment. Call 01 2910488 to make an appointment.
ACE STATION Got a PlayStation Portable yet? If not, Sony just keep coming up with more reasons for you to purchase, the latest being the launch of six Irish award-winning short films, available to download onto your PSP from www. yoursps. ie. They include Jellybaby by Ronan and Rob Burke and Full Circle by Simon Fitzmaurice, as well as the classic Yu Ming Is Ainm Dom. Daniel O'Hare's short tells the tale of Yu Ming who learns Gaeilge in preparation for his move to Ireland and is utterly confused when nobody understands a word he says.
SOYA GOOD FOR YOU We've been fans of edamame for years - actually, since the World Cup in Japan, 2002, when eating these soya beans and shouting at the screen had to substitute for actually being there. You could bang on about the health benefits - it's the only veg with all nine essential amino acids, no cholesterol or sugar and high in fibre - but its primary draw is its delicious taste. They're quite addictive too, particularly when smothered in soy sauce (or tamari if you'd prefer a wheat-free alternative). Once only available in Asian supermarkets, Birds Eye now sells bags of frozen shelled eadamame and Marks and Spencer's Oriental Edamame Salad has become the shop's bestselling salad after launching last May, and they've just launched a new tuna and edamame salad as part of their Food To Go range. Get them into you.
THROUGH THE GRAPEVINE The day when the only wine you could get on a night out was some terrible concoction in quarter bottles is becoming a distant, unpleasant memory, thanks to the new breed of wine bars springing up. Ely has launched its third wine bar in Dublin on Hanover Quay in the South Docklands. As per the other Ely, the food is fresh, local and simple and there are over 500 wines on the menu, 99 of which are available by the glass. Then there's enowine (above), which has opened in the IFSC. This shop/cum wine bar operates a system whereby a layer of nitrogen protects the wine, meaning that bottles remain fresh for three weeks, allowing customers (who buy an enowine credit card) to try any of the samples on display, from the cheapest to the serious stuff. It's open Monday to Friday 12am to 11pm.
BUY A WHISKER When it comes to artists, it doesn't get much more rock and roll than Charlie Whisker, who designed a U2 album cover, did a Bruce Springsteen video and received a Grammy nomination for his work with Bob Dylan. His latest exhibition of paintings, Consilience will be on show at the Solomon Gallery, Powerscourt Townhouse from 12 to 24 February 2007. A great artist to buy right now, if you're thinking of making that kind of investment.
BYRNE BABY BYRNE Be still our beating hearts? Don't miss the chance to hear the very lovely Gabriel Byrne give a public interview as part of the fifth Jameson Dublin International Film Festival.
He's appearing at the Irish Film Institute, Temple Bar at 12pm on 17 February, although there is talk of the venue being changed to accommodate the huge amount of interest in seeing him. Tickets are free, but you'll need to email events@dubliniff. com to get one.
