Mrs Power, who had a stroke five years ago, was sleeping in a purposebuilt downstairs bedroom when she was overcome by smoke. Her body was discovered in bed, not on the floor. Her wheelchair was not in the room with her at the time.

Mr Power was found at the end of her bed and there is nothing to indicate that the couple awoke. No escape was attempted from the blaze, and it is believed that they remained sleeping before they died.

It is understood that the fire occurred on Wednesday 24 January and it was discovered at lunchtime on Friday 26 January. We are happy to correct these matters of fact and extend our sympathy to the Power family on their loss.
