IRISH LIFT SUNDERLAND

Sunderland maintained their promotion push thanks to goals from David Connolly and a first for Anthony Stokes since his £2m move to the club from Arsenal. It was the youngster who put Roy Keane's side ahead at Plymouth after 69 minutes and that advantage was doubled just two minutes later. The result continues the club's meteoric rise of late and they now lie just out of the play-off positions on goal difference. In fact they just three points behind an automatic promotion place, currently held by West Brom.

Mick McCarthy's Wolves also closed in on the play-off spots thanks to a 1-0 win over Preston.
