DUBLIN LEFT TO REGRET WIDES TALLY AGAINST KILKENNY CBS

ONE amazing statistic to emerge the Leinster Colleges SHC quarter-final in Dr. Cullen Park yesterday was that with 45 minutes played the wides count stood at 14-0 with holders Dublin guilty of the 'squandermania'.

The battle was evenly poised at that stage, the CBS just 0-7 to 0-4 in front, with Mark Bergin the scorer of 0-6, all but one from placed balls.

There was still just three points between the sides with seven minutes remaining but three points from Kilkenny's Aidan Stapleton in the 57th, 58th and 59th minutes ended the game as a contest. The wides count finished at 20-2.

Meanwhile, Keith Hogan inspired St Kieran's to a 115 to 0-11 victory in Bunclody yesterday as they booked their semi-finals place.

Hogan sent over eight of Kieran's 15 points before Shane Brennan scored a late solo goal to give the Kilkenny giants a seven point victory.

SScorers: KILKENNY CBS: M Bergin 0-7 5f, 1 65, A Stapleton 0-3, M Kelly, P Guinan 0-1 each. DUBLIN COLLEGES: D O'Connor 0-2 1f, D Whelan 0-2 2f, D Treacy 0-1 f, N McMorrow 0-1, D Kelly 0-1 f
