The accessory of the sambo and burger world, relish is a chunky condiment made from cooked or pickled vegetables and fruit.
Pickle, its Americancousin, is a favourite burger staple, so we included this in our tasting.

Ballymaloe Country Relish /2.85/310g Immediately identified as Ballymaloe by all tasters, this tomatorich relish is deliciously sweet and spicy.
Sultanas and mustard seeds add texture to this homemadetasting product. A real classic.
*****
Bick's Burger Relish /1.57/300g
Little chunks of gherkin struggle to be tasted above the red pepper and tomato base.
The premise seems good . . . a gherkin and bell pepper relish . . . but the thickeners and sweeteners overpower its appeal.
***
Heinz Tangy Tomato Pickle /1.12/280g
Choc-full of 'bits', this tomato relish is overpowered by onion.
Tiny vegetable pieces add texture and tasters liked the gherkin bite. Overall found to be too sweet and oniony.
**
Tesco American style Tomato and Jalapeno Relish /0.88/300g
This relish assaults the taste buds with an unrefined mix of spices. The tomatoes' fruitiness is lost amongst a sea of vinegar. No jalapeno taste, no tomato taste, just a vinegary sauce that's cheap and pointless.
