IRISHEurovision legend Johnny Logan has offered to undergo a DNA test to prove that he is not the father of the sevenyear-old son of Belgian singer Wendy Van Wanten. Logan has made the offer in an attempt to dismiss allegations that have been made about him in a new book on Flemish showbusiness.
Van Wanten, a former model and agony aunt in a soft-porn television show, gave birth to a son, Clement, seven years ago.
She was a single parent and from the beginning she made quite a show of not wanting to disclose the identity of Clement's father.
While various rumours have circulated about the father of Van Wanten's son over the past seven years, the identity of the father has remained a mystery.
Now, in a new book, Flemish comedian Bert Kruismans has accused Logan of being the father of the child, and claims this is an open secret within Flemish showbusiness.
But a spokesman for Logan told the Sunday Tribune this weekend: "Johnny has dismissed these rumours as total rubbish. He has offered to get a DNA test done but nobody will take him up on that offer as they know that the test will prove he is not the father and show that the book is totally false."
The new book has fuelled controversy in Belgian newspapers and television and forced Logan into hitting back at the allegations.
Speaking on society programme De Rode Loper on Flemish television, Logan said, "The truth is, I am not the father of Clement. I never had a sexual or any type of relationship, I sound like Bill Clinton heref I never had a physical relationship in that sense with Wendy Van Wanten.
"As for the guy, this comedian, who wrote the original bookf he'd better pray that I never meet him and if I do, that he's got very good insurance."
While Van Wanten and Logan were good friends and recorded the song 'You've Really Got A Hold On Me' together, their friendship has soured amidst the recent controversy.
"What she should have done as a friend at this stage, " Logan says, "is come forward and say 'Johnny Logan is not the father' but the silence is deafening.
"You don't see a friend go through this and do nothing about it."
