Marking a decade of the written word

WHAT'S THE STORY?

Get out your bukes, because next Thursday is World Book Day. Hundreds of schools across Ireland will receive World Book Day packs that include a /1.50 book token, and 10 /1.50 books are being published for sale in book shops to mark the occasion.

WHAT ARE THEY SAYING?

"The Panda people and animals are having a big party.

Everybody's there: Conor and Erin and Lively and Danny. Oh no!

If Danny is there, trouble will follow! Now, what can he do to turn the party into 'PANDA-monium'?" . . .
extract from The Panda Party, an Irish book especially published by O'Brien Press for the occasion.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

Sponsored readathons will mark the 10year anniversary of the project.

Also, the organisers of World Book Day have launched a site to find the 10 most essential books . . . contribute yours by visiting www. worldbook10. com.

Books will also be donated to hospitals around the country.
